Consultation on Draft Biodiversity SPD and Draft Upper Nene Valley Gravel Pits Special Protection Area SPD CONSULTATION CLOSED

Consultation on the draft Biodiversity Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) and draft Upper Nene Valley Gravel Pits Special Protection Area SPD has commenced today. This will take place over a six-week period until 5.00 pm on Monday 23rd March 2015.

Biodiversity SPD

The SPD provides information and guidance for developers and others to ensure that policy and legislation requirements are met and best practice standards achieved. It is prepared by the Nene Valley Nature Improvement Area and other partners, and will build on policies in the North Northamptonshire Core Spatial Strategy (adopted 2008), the draft North Northamptonshire Joint Core Strategy currently out for consultation and the West Northamptonshire Joint Core Strategy (adopted December 2014).

This SPD is an update to the existing Biodiversity SPD adopted in 2011 by the four North Northamptonshire local authorities (Wellingborough, Kettering, Corby and East Northamptonshire). The updated document takes account of recent changes in national policy and has been broadened in scope to cover the entire county. It has been prepared by the Nene Valley Nature Improvement Area in consultation with Northamptonshire’s Local Planning Authorities and other stakeholders, with the intention that it will be adopted by all local authorities, as appropriate.

Upper Nene Valley Gravel Pits Special Protection Area SPD

The SPD provides information and guidance for developers and others to ensure that development has no significant effect on the Special Protection Area, in accordance with the legal requirements of the Habitats Regulations. It is prepared by Natural England and RSPB and will build on policies in the North Northamptonshire Core Spatial Strategy (adopted 2008), the draft North Northamptonshire Joint Core Strategy currently out for consultation and the West Northamptonshire Joint Core Strategy (adopted December 2014). It has been developed in consultation with the four local authorities in which the Special Protection Area lies: South Northamptonshire, Northampton, Wellingborough and East Northamptonshire.

This SPD has been informed by extensive technical work, in particular a 2014 study of recreational pressure on the Upper Nene Valley Gravel Pits Special Protection Area.
